Upon entering prison, many inmates exhibit markers of psychological vulnerability, such as a history of psychiatric disorders or addictions. New research reveals that the weeks following this period are crucial for suicide prevention and withdrawal. It also indicates that, while the prevalence of psychiatric disorders appears generally stable during incarceration, situations vary considerably from one individual to another.

The "Longitudinal Psychiatric Epidemiology in Prison" (EPSYLON) study, conducted between 2022 and 2025 in nearly ten prisons, monitored the evolution of mental health in the prison environment. This study is coordinated by Dr. Thomas Fovet and the INTERACTIONS team.
