Scientific orientations of the unit

Neurodegenerative and neurovascular diseases (NDD & NVD) both leading to severe cognitive impairment represent a considerable threat to public health, both due to the tsunami of affected people worldwide and in France, and due to the lack of current therapeutic solutions for both symptoms. and neuroprotection.

Vascular lesions (infarction or hemorrhage) lead to neurodegeneration and represent a secondary NDD. Conversely, so-called primary NDDs (Parkinson's, ALS, Alzheimer's) are also influenced by vascular risk factors, and also alter vascularization.

Thus, our research unit was created in 2001 with the aim of bringing together various disciplines for a translational, transnosographic and multimodal study of NDD & NVD meeting 3 main objectives

  1. the study of pathophysiological mechanisms and pharmacological targets,
  2. the development and validation of biomarkers with “substitute” or “theragnostic” value and of clinical type (multi-domain cognitive and behavioral assessment), biological (blood and CSF), physiological (EEG, evoked potentials) and imaging (MRI and PET scan ), for which we use in vitro, in vivo models and large cohorts of patients and controls,
  3. validate innovative symptomatic and neuroprotective treatments using therapeutic trials.

It is one of the four major areas of research supported by the University of Lille, INSERM and the Lille University Hospital.

General objective: Towards a multidisciplinary, transnosographic and translational strategy to explore the pathophysiology and pharmacological targets in order to develop innovative therapeutics in association with prognostic and theragnostic biomarkers of neurovascular and neurodegenerative diseases.
